Next G Alliance looks at channel models in 3GPP TR 38.901

Jul 25,2024

Title: Channel Measurements and Modeling for Joint/Integrated Communication and Sensing, as well as 7-24 GHz Communication.

A new Next G Alliance report provides a study of communication channels and Joint Communication and Sensing (JCAS)/Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) channel models, considering modifications to channel models developed in the 3GPP TR 38.901 for 7-24 GHz.

About the 3GPP study

TR38.901 captures the findings of the 3 study items:

  • Tdoc - "Study on channel model for frequency spectrum above 6 GHz" (RP-151606).
  • Tdoc - "Study on New Radio Access Technology" (RP-162469).
  • Tdoc - "Study on Channel Modeling for Indoor Industrial Scenarios" (RP-182138).

It is intended to capture the channel model(s) for frequencies from 0.5GHz up to 100GHz, covering evaluation methodology and the modelling of the physical layer of both Mobile Equipment and Access Network of 3GPP systems.

The purpose of the work is to help TSG RAN WG1 to properly model and evaluate the performance of physical layer techniques using the appropriate channel model(s).

The TR will be kept up-to-date via CRs in the future.
