Mark,

A great deal of feedback relevant to MExE has come out of the April meeting in
Seoul, Korea.  The meeting was hosted by several leading Korean wireless
companies and industry associations, and was also held in conjunction with
the 2nd Asian SDR Workshop.  Keynote talks were presented by LG and Samsung,
among others.  The Samsung talk was given by Dr. S-K. Park, whom I'm sure 
you know
from his Chairmanship of 3GPP-TSG-T.  Dr. Park devoted a good chunk of his talk
to the potential importance of the SDR Forum/ MExE liaison.


Our proposal to re-use MExE technologies for software download was 
developed further
in Seoul, in particular with respect to addressing current regulatory 
issues.  I subsequently
chaired an SDR Workshop in Washington, DC, to prepare the industry's 
response to the
FCC's Notice of Inquiry (NOI) on SDR.  We had a very international turnout, 
including representatives
from European and Asian wireless regulatory authorities. MExE figures 
prominantly in the SDR
Forum response to the FCC NOI.


I also caught a Roy Rubenstein short article entitled "Groups cooperate on 
data download" (dated 8 May 2000), in which you
and others were interviewed regarding the SDR Forum/ MExE liaison.

The above regulatory activities have consumed much of the Forum's time 
since Korea. However, at our
next general meeting in Seattle, Washington (19-22 June), we will be 
crafting our initial input for MExE
Release 2000, and plan to present this at our joint meeting with you in 
Galway in August (do you have further
details on dates and location?). FYI, I have also attached a press release 
announcing the Seattle meeting.
Several member companies have inquired as to whether MExE would have any 
objections to the SDR Forum
putting out a press release to officially "announce" our collaborative 
efforts, to be released shortly after the
June meeting?


Finally, any input that you or other MExE members can provide to support 
the SDR Forum in its further
development of MExE-related contributions would be much appreciated. For 
reference, I am attaching a
preliminary "SDR Forum Position on Security Issues" (word document + 
powerpoint figures)
for your review with respect to MExE related content. Please note that this 
document was prepared for
the FCC, NOT for input to MExE.

Useful input to Forum work would be more detailed descriptions of MExE S/W 
download technologies and
anticipated roadmaps (i.e. embracing XML, etc.), as well as similar 
"MExE-enhancement" documents that
have been submitted by other standards bodies, in order to give Forum 
members a better idea of the scope,
format, and level of detail which MExE would like to see in our 
submission.  If you can forward such input to
me prior to our Jume meeting, it will have a very positive impact.
